ABOUT ME
Viraj started Char as the result of an obsession run wild. He bought his first pizza oven back in August of 2020 while working a job at Target pushing carts prior to his senior year of high school. Realizing how much he hated that job, he swore that he would buy the pizza oven he had been wanting. In December of 2020, during the dead of winter, he started selling to his neighbors and classmates. After graduating high school, he officially started Char in November of 2021 and has been vending at countless breweries, coffee shops, and restaurants in and around Philadelphia ever since.
He opened the Char storefront in August 2024 with the goal of continuing what he started years ago and creating the best pizza he could. His hope is to create a space where pizza is elevated to the level of his favorite shops and restaurants across the country.
Viraj also has a tendency to ramble and happens to be writing this himself, so at the moment he’s stopping it here so he doesn't stroll past the informative line and go right into egotistic territory.

Located at 310 W. Master, Char has and always will be centered around the pursuit of great pizza. Our belief is the only thing that separates good from great is the willingness to focus on the nuances of a thing. We aim to excel across all aspects of the operation, focusing on all the details in sourcing ingredients, baking our pies, treating our guests, and delivering an unmatched experience. In doing so, we continue to build on our foundational elements:
Char is a living and breathing thing, growing and innovating in our approach and pursuing to be better than the day before. That means we are not, and will likely never be a perfect restaurant, but we will continue chasing that impossible standard.
Char is more than just pizza — over the past three years, our pop-ups have let us sling pies in and around Philadelphia, and make genuine connections. We want it to continue being a place of warmth and comfort; a restaurant that it feels good to dine at.
We want to be great and will not just settle for being good. We look to push the envelope and play the line of cooking for our pride and making food that y’all are genuinely are excited to eat.
We are committed to using ethically sourced quality ingredients. Not only do we want to be proud of what we making, but we want to be proud of where it comes from.
